Industry into Education

Industry into Education is a pilot programme for the Hospitality and Tourism sector. It is funded by the Department for Employment and Learning as part of the ‘Future Skills Action Group’ plan to support and develop the growing tourism and hospitality industry in Northern Ireland (NI).  It is managed by the Learning and Skills Development Agency NI and offers industry specialists the opportunity to work with local regional colleges to support and quality assure training for their sector.

 

Purpose

  • To bring modern trends and current practice into the classroom and support the teaching and learning of students
  • To ensure the relevance of curriculum content and assist in advising on delivery methods and teaching strategies
  • To contribute to and advise Heads of Department and Programme Managers in the strategic development of new initiatives and quality reviews
  • To advise on new resources / equipment
  • To support skills competition coaching and mentoring
  • To support Careers education, advice and guidance
  • To develop relationships which could lead to sponsorship of staff and student visits and placements, including Lecturers into Industry.

 

Activities

These should have an agreed focus on a subject area, course or new initiative in the Hospitality or Tourism training provision. The industry specialist will take the role of adviser rather than part-time lecturer.

 

Funding

Industry specialists may work with the college for up to 5 full days or 10 half days. Payment of £150 per day may be claimed from LSDA NI by the industry specialist at the end of the placement.

 

Process

  • Application form to be completed in conjunction with the Head of Department
  • Activity and outcomes agreed in advance of start date
  • College induction completed and activities undertaken
  • Feedback and a brief report with recommendations provided to the college

 

Evaluation

A review and evaluation of the outcomes of Industry into Education programme will be undertaken by LSDA NI through questionnaires and face-to-face interviews.
