Leadership and Management

ILM accredited courses

LSDA works with FE colleges and Training Organisations to improve leadership and management skills. It delivers a range of programmes accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), from level 3 for First Line Managers to level 7 in Executive Management. These programmes can be delivered in-house or across the further education sector.

Leadership and Management Framework

The new, large, merged Regional Colleges now face significant challenges in developing leaders and managers who can deliver the vision outlined in FE Means Business. LSDA is working with the colleges to develop a framework that will enable them to deliver this vision and deliver high quality services to the public whilst generating public value and ensuring a climate of continuous self improvement.

Building Capacity

LSDA aims to develop the strategic vision of senior leaders and bring to the fore contemporary approaches, strategies and techniques which will bring benefits to the FE sector as a whole. A series of Expert Seminars brings speakers of note to speak to senior management in the FE colleges about topics of current interest. Recent topics have been Communication, Developing a Strategic Plan, Building the Senior Team and Developing a Culture to encourage Innovation. We also facilitate a round table discussion on employer engagement and Solutions Focused management training.

Solutions Focused Management tools

These are effective and easy -to-use techniques that can be used by hard-pressed frontline and middle managers to make the most of their working day. The micro tools offered include ways of preparing for meetings, planning workload, helping others make decisions and coaching staff to achieve results.

Coaching

Solution focused coaching is very effective in improving performance, motivation and personal growth. Managers can be trained to use coaching skills internally with their staff. Training will explore coaching skills such as powerful questioning and active listening and can enable teams and individuals to discover solutions to issues and make tangible progress in improving performance.
